Brian Quinn Retires and John Reid becomes Celtic Chairman

Celtic chairman Brian Quinn, CBE has announced he will retire from the board at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting, which will be held on 19 November 2007. Mr Quinn joined the board in March 1996 and has been chairman since June 2000.

Brian Quinn said, “I have greatly enjoyed the 11 years I have served as a director of Celtic, seven of those as Chairman. It has been an honour to have lead the Board of this Company. I am grateful to my fellow directors and colleagues throughout the Company for their support and their dedication to Celtic, and wish them and Celtic every success in the future. I will, of course, continue to support Celtic, one of the great clubs in world football.

My retirement also triggers the need to appoint a successor. I am delighted that John Reid has agreed to take on this role; I am confident he will lead the Company and Celtic Football Club to an even brighter and more successful future. He is also joined on the Board by Ian Livingston, an exceptionally able individual, who will further strengthen what is an already excellent group of directors.

Celtic Sign German Internationalist Andreas Hinkel

Celtic have signed German international full-back Andreas Hinkel from Seville, according to CQN.

The 25-year-old right-back, who moved to Spain from Stuttgart in 2006, has been capped 17 times by Germany. He has been unable to maintain a regular first-team place due to the presence of Daniel Alves - reputedly one of the best right-backs in the world. I'm thinking that he won't face the same kind of competition from 'Ten Bob Heid' Gary Caldwell. Andreas will be eligible to play against 'Der Hun' on Wednesday, but will be cup tied in the Champions League. Well done Celtic for getting such a promising player. About time too. Let's hope that that a Centre Half and a prolific striker are also on the shopping list.

Balde misses Barca showdown (Setanta Sports)

Classy Celtic moved to within a point of the Huns with a convincing 3-0 win a Hearts team that continues to falter.

Celtic looked to be in fine form from very early on, with good chances for Shunsuke Nakamura and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who later poked home the first goal after more good play by Aiden McGeady. The second half brought another goal from Skippy, who pushed his way still further ahead as the SPL’s top scorer with a total of 18 so far this season, as his header at the back post on 51 minutes made it 2-0. Celtic’s third came courtesy of Andreas Hinkel after 76 minutes.
While this win will have buoyed Spirits among Celtic fans, they face a sterner test on Wednesday when Barcelona visit Parkhead in the Champions League. However, in later news The Forces Of Darkness increased their lead in the SPL back to four with the aid of a penalty awarded by Mike McCurry. No Rangers players Booked. Shocker Eh?. Never seen that coming. You don't believe me... Look at his performance below so far this season.... (From CQN)

Mike McCurry refereed his sixth Rangers game of the season (five in the league) on Sunday; twice the frequency Rangers have seen any other ref. Sunday's game was McCurry's 14th SPL game of the season, meaning that an incredible 35% of his SPL appointments have been Rangers. Yip, every 3rd SPL game is a Rangers game for Mike! He cautioned more Celtic players in one game this season than he has Rangers players in SIX GAMES all season; a key factor which has resulted in Aiden McGeady being cautioned more often than Rangers’ Cuellar, Weir, Papac, Adam and Ferguson combined.

He issued 12 of Celtic’s 37 SPL yellow cards in four games, or 32% of the total in 17% of the games.McCurry appears to save his worst treatment for Hearts; he allowed Barry Ferguson to control the ball with his arm before putting Rangers ahead in the League Cup semi final. He also decided not to punish Allan McGregor for his outrageous lunge at Callum Elliot at Tynecastle; a clear penalty kick to everyone except McCurry and Stevie Wonder. Nor did he punish any of the five Rangers players who left the field to celebrate with their fans after a goal against Celtic in October. Maybe that's why we're Paranoid ??
